The 1st Fateh Cup Football Tournament 2025 officially kicked off at the Astro Turf Football Ground, Khel Gaon, Kurbathang, Kargil, in Ladakh. The event, which began on November 9th, 2025, marks a tribute to the brave martyrs of Kargil (1948–1999). The tournament brought together eight top football teams from Kargil for this inaugural edition.
Organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with the Kargil Football Association under the aegis of the Ladakh Football Association (LFA), the tournament was held with the support of the Indian Army. The event was graced by Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Hon’ble CEC, LAHDC Kargil, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Joint Director of Youth Services & Sports (YSS) Ladakh, as the Guest of Honour.

The opening ceremony reflected the unity and enthusiasm that surrounded the tournament. Dr. Akhoon highlighted in his speech that while the event has traditionally been organized by the Indian Army, the vision is to elevate it to national and eventually international levels. This vision is supported by all stakeholders involved, including the Indian Army and YSS Ladakh.
This event celebrated the unity and spirit of Kargil, with teams showcasing their talent in front of a supportive crowd. It also marks the beginning of what the LFA hopes will become a proud annual tradition, helping foster football development and strengthen the community’s bond with the sport.
A special note of appreciation goes to Ms. Tsering Angmo, General Secretary of the Ladakh Football Association, whose dedication and leadership played a key role in the flawless execution of the tournament.
As the LFA continues to raise the bar for football in Ladakh, it remains committed to nurturing local talent, providing opportunities for young footballers, and raising the standards of competition and coaching. This inaugural tournament is only the first step towards a brighter future for football in Ladakh and beyond.
